But I work all the time and I'm SOOOOOOO TIRRRRRRRRED - Tips on how to keep your house clean, neat and organized in no time at all.
Now I wouldn't say that I have the cleanest house in the world. I am proud to say, however that I really feel that we have it under control. You see I get crazy anxiety when anything becomes to cluttered, I work on average 45-50 hours a week, I have 2 wonderful children that are boys , which can cause a lot of chaos in itself and I have recently started a gym membership to get my self back in shape. "How do you do it?", you ask... Here are a few tips I would like to share with you to help get organized for the new year and beyond.
I do have to admit that I have an amazing husband who is wonderful at keeping the house tidy. It is rare when I come home from work that there is clutter. There is a place for everything. One way we ensure this is BASKETS and BOXES. We have boxes for remotes, baskets for toys and clothes and we have even utilized bags as drawer separators. See pics below. Using decorative ways to store toys and things is fun and clever way to hide the essentials and the not so essentials of life.
Under every sink and in every linen closet we have a list of supplies.
Having these simple supplies in your house in multiple places allows you to have a "grab and go" mentality to cleaning.
Make your bed as soon as you get up. It is amazing what a difference this will make.
Keep dishes out of the sink and put clean dishes away. My 10 year old is responsible for this so I can't take credit - but this gives him a sense of empowerment and he is excited to earn google bucks - It's a WIN WIN for us all ;-)
Throughout the week, having the supplies in every closet and under every sink I am able to wipe down sinks, tables and anything else dirty fingerprints have a tendency to miraculously appear, dust base boards and shelves, clean mirrors and windows, etc... in between getting my little one ready for his bath/shower and in between any lull. Basically, if you see a mess, a spot, a stain, a smudge, anything at all that needs to be wiped, put away, tucked away, etc...don't wait. In the famous words of NIKE - JUST DO IT!!! Find clever ways of hiding toys, and essentials that are used on an everyday basis. Trust when I say the chaos of life doesn't seem to be so chaotic when everything has a home.
But... I don't get a deep clean. So I take one day a week to deep clean. Bathrooms, kitchen, floors, vacuum, etc...This is when my vinegar and oils come into play. Oh the magic of nature!!! See an earlier post on how I like to clean my floors. What is great about the methods above is that the deep clean takes no more than an hour. It's AWESOME!
Hope this helps you get clean, neat and organized for the new year and beyond.
How do you do it - Comment below and share yours tips.
Is it a cool 70 with no humidity and sun blazin???
Is there a blanket of humidity in the air???
Is it a gloom and doom 70???
The trick is to layer...
With any of these options you want to be able to take off if over-heated or to add on if chilled.

So I hate cleaning as much as the next person. BUT...I have been somewhat obsessed with it. Darn you Pinterest. On average I work anywhere from 50-60 hours a week so time is seriously of the essence. If you read my about page you will see it is a house of testosterone. (with the exception of our beautiful baby girl Riley. (see pic below)
For as long as I can remember I have been looking for the "best" products on cleaning. See cause I LOVE TO CLEAN, (said in an extremely sarcastic tone.) I am, however, what some people call a sucker for shiny things. If there is a good marketing campaign behind something that usually means that they have a bucket load of funds to pour into their campaigns, so everyone is buying them right? So they must be good, right?
Well, from personal experience, if there is a large budget for marketing, it usually means that they have to keep promoting their product because they are somewhat of a scam. They work so well at first, but then, they just stop working. That is why they continue to promote their brands so you will develop an emotional connection to the brand. You will think of them first when you buy something. You know it doesn't work, but the bottle is so pretty...(getting lost in pixie dust) Have you ever been the victim of such marketing ploys. Lord know I have. Don't fall for it. trust me - they are not worth the money.
Recent events have caused me to be very cautious on the items that I purchase. Not only is it financial issues, but health plays a big role. Certain fumes can cause damage to the body. I have even noticed that after switching to natural products in the house that behavior and mood have been positively effected. The products you use in your house can make a difference in a good day or a bad day. I would love to say we are all natural, but I can't. There are still some items I love to use and just can't think of giving them up (love me some disinfecting wipes) because of the convenience or I just haven't found an natural remedy yet. But in time I hope to change that.
Pinterest has many posts on natural cleaning with baking soda, and let me tell you, WOW. Baking Soda is an amazing natural product. You can do so many things. Health, cook, and clean. Today we are focusing on grout.
Now I love the smell of bleach, but it is a strong chemical with strong effects. If I am home without the kids I tend to use this to clean. It still leaves a smell in the air. A little while back I used 3/4 cups baking soda and 1/4 cup bleach to clean the tile and grout in the shower. Holy crap it was amazing. You do have to keep the room well ventilated, with a window and door open and if you have sensitive skin you should use rubber gloves. (use a mask if you do not have the option to open a window). Wish I had a before and after.
After researching a bit I have read that vinegar is a powerful and natural cleaning agent. I was extremely skeptical so I decided to put it to the test. I mean, won't the smell linger forever? Won't it attract bugs? Won't it leave a film? And the skepticism just goes on.
I have been meaning to clean my boy's bathroom floor for some time now. This is the bathroom that gets the most traffic and the other day I noticed how dark the grout was beginning to look. We had this grout put in so I know it wasn't brown originally, yuck!
I know how great bleach can work, but I wanted to put the vinegar to the test. I need a healthy alternative to clean with. Let's see if this will work.
This is what you need.
Now, to put them to the test. Remember when I said I want a quick way to do things cause I am not a fan of cleaning nor am I a fan of waiting. Not fun! Mixing the bleach and baking soda paste was quick and super easy. Just make sure you aren't wearing cloths that you want to keep nice cause bleach will mysteriously creep onto what ever it is you are wearing.
What I did with the bleach and baking soda:
The vinegar mixture is also super quick and easy. What I like about this mixture is that you do not need a lot and you can keep it stored in the glass bottle FOREVER! Not that you would need to cause you can use this mixture in thousands, YES THOUSANDS of places throughout the house.
This is what I did for the vinegar, lemon oil and baking soda:
Now here are pics of the two methods next to each other:
Now, to me the results looks the same. Both have benefits like killing germs, etc. I guess it is personal preference on which method you want to work with. As far as cost, they equate to be the same as well. Considering the amount of each ingredient you use versus the cost and life span of said ingredients you may actually come out on top using the vinegar method.
It is entirely up to you.
For me - it's the Vinegar Method all the way. The vinegar smell does not linger, and there are so many advantages and health benefits to using the vinegar/lemon mixture as well. Google it. You will be impressed. And no, it does not attract bugs. As a matter of fact, vinegar and lemon are used as a bug repellent. Who Knew...
Which method will you use? Comment below and let me know. (poet and don't know it)
